DISCIPLING MINISTRIES
Here at ‘The Well’, we are seeking to establish a clear pathway that will lead people from where they are currently at spiritually, to their potential in Christ. We will follow the pathway that Jesus blazed to make His disciples. This spiritual pathway is revealed by the four major challenges that He presented to His disciples, and it is upon these challenges that we will build our pathway. For the sake of retention and application, we will assign each challenge a chair. |
The first challenge that He gave those early followers was to “Come and See”, which literally means, “just show up”. (John 1:39 & 46) Jesus invited the seeker to come and check out who He was to help them decide about following Him.
Today, we get to come alongside lost seekers, inviting them to just show up to see Jesus in our lives and in our church. Then we pray and partner together with the Holy Spirit, to love on and point our peers to Christ. The challenge for the church here is to win the lost. The second challenge Jesus gave those early followers was to “follow me.” (John 1:43) This meant to come behind Jesus, to follow Him in His footsteps, to learn from Jesus, and to join in the adventure of becoming a disciple of Jesus.
Today, we get to come alongside one another as we master the basics of faith. The challenge for the church here is to build the believer. The third challenge that Jesus gave to His followers was, “To follow me and I will make you fishers of men”. (Matthew 4:18-20) Jesus raises the stakes by giving them a new purpose for following Him, to become fishers of men.
Today, as someone grows in their faith they become more like Jesus, and they acquire Jesus’ heart for the lost. This maturing heart leads them to enter the harvest field to become fishers of men. As a church we are seeking to equip people to partner together to both love and reach our peers. The challenge here is to, “equip the worker.” Jesus’ fourth challenge can be found in John 15, “Go and bear fruit”. What does a healthy mature grape vine produce, grapes? What does a healthy mature disciple produce, other disciples, who can make disciples. (Matthew 28:19-20)
Today, we get to walk others through the same pathway that we have been on with Jesus. We multiply our lives into others, producing disciples is a team sport and is a natural result, empowered by God. (1 Thessalonians 2:6) |
While God equally loves each person no matter where they are at in their spiritual pathway, it is clearly His desire that all grow and mature spiritually. Over 2023 we will be focusing on creating tools and experiences to help build the believer, Chair 2. Our goal is to come alongside people at wherever they are at spiritually and then help them to walk the pathway towards their God-given potential.
